Artistic Director of Vancouver Moving Theatre Associate Artistic Director of Downtown Hear of City Festival Savannah Walling (hl Gat’saa) is a mother, an immigrant. and a 12th generation descendent of European refugees. She has lived and worked 45 years in the Downtown Eastside, on ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish. A writer/theatre artist trained in dance, meme and music, Savannah is Artistic Director of Vancouver Moving Theatre (since 1983) and Associate Artistic Director of the Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival (since 2004). She collaborates with artists of many genres, traditions, and ancestries to create productions and support projects that interweave localized content with accessible storytelling, spectacle, live music and living cultural practice.
